There are two types of “Search Synonyms” in KIBO: “One Way” and “Two Way”.“One Way” expansion includes a “Term” and a set of “Synonyms” that replace the search results. As this is a “One Way” expansion, the search results are not expanded to the “Term” or any other listed “Synonyms”.“Two Way” expansion does not include a “Term”, but instead only contains a list of “Synonyms” to which the search expands. This is a “Two Way” expansion, so for any listed “Synonym”, the search results are expanded to all other listed “Synonyms”.“Multi-Word” search terms are only expanded if they are contained within “quotes” in the search query. If a “Multi-Word” search term is not contained within “quotes” in the search query, each word in the search will be used to find “Synonyms”. For example, if a shopper searches for “blue shoes” without “quotes”, both “blue” and “shoes” will be expanded to any applicable “Synonyms”. To get to the “Search “Synonyms” configuration screen, on the “MAIN” tab, click “Search”, then click “Synonyms”. This is where we’ll add the search expansion terms of “top” and “shirt” that we want returned, along with “blouse”. Type the terms into the “Synonyms” field, and press “TAB” to “Add” them to the list. Press “ENTER” or click “Save” to save Synonym expansion. Creating “Two Way” synonym expansions is similar to “One Way”, except we do not enter a “Term”. For “Two Way” expansions, ANY of the “Synonyms” that we add in the “Synonyms” field will be included in searches relative to the others.After we click “Create New Synonym” on the top right, we’ll select “Two Way” from the dropdown. This will “gray out” the “Term” field, disallowing any entry. We’ll then add all of our terms in the “Synonyms” field.In this example, a search for “Cola” will return all terms listed in the “Synonym” field. It works the same for the other terms, “Coke” and “Pepsi”, as well.Similar to the “One Way” example, pressing “Enter” or clicking “Save” will save the “Two Way” expansion. Creating two-way synonym. This will gray out the term field, disallowing, any entry, well, then add all of our terms in the synonyms field. In this example, a search for Cola will return all terms listed in the synonym field.
