“Customer Segments” allow users to group accounts together for special uses, such as marketing initiatives, Discounts, or Price Lists. Segments can be more useful than Attributes for creating broad customer classifications.For example, we want to reward loyal, high-value customers with a “Free Shipping” discount on all future orders, and we’ve determined that all shoppers who spend more than one thousand dollars lifetime should qualify. We can create a “VIP” Customer Segment, add all applicable shoppers to it, and then create a discount that applies specifically to the Segment.In most cases when using Price Lists, Customer Segments also drive the product pricing for which shoppers are applicable. To navigate to “Customer Segments”, in the left menu, on the “MAIN” tab, click “Customers”, then click “Customer Segments”. The editing process for any new or existing Segments happens directly in-line.The “ID” for the new Segment will be automatically generated by the system, and will be set once we save the Segment. Then we’ll add the “Code”, “Name”, and optional “Description”. Important note: after we save the new Segment, we will be unable to edit the “Code”. Clicking the “Ellipses” on a Customer Segment opens a menu where we can “Add Customers”, “Remove Customers”, or “Delete Segments” entirely. We’ll discuss all of these, starting with “Add Customers”. Again, we’ll select the desired accounts using the checkboxes on the far left, then click “Apply”. All of the selected customers have now been removed from the selected Customer Segment. Alternatively, we can remove Customer Segments individually through the “Customer Account Detail” page. In the “Customer Segments” field, we can click the “X” next to the Segment we want to remove.
